The Harrisburg Men’s Chorus, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will be hiring a new
Artistic Director for the 2012 – 2013 concert season.
Experience in choral directing and conducting is required, along with the skills and
abilities to lead the group on a continued path of growth and development.

Mission of the Position: The Artistic Director is responsible for providing the leadership in the area of choral music. He/she is to use this position to develop a men’s chorus that is able to sing choral music from a wide variety of musical styles, both traditional and contemporary.
Supervision: The Artistic Director reports directly to the Board of Directors of the Harrisburg Men’s Chorus and/or their designee.
Qualifications:
A committed musician who is willing to further develop his/her directing style.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Music is preferred, but at least 5 years of experience
leading adult choruses.
Knowledge of a wide variety of musical styles and the ability to teach these
styles to the chorus.
Willingness to work cooperatively with the Board of Directors.
Possess effective interpersonal communication skills.
Possess good organizational skills.
Possess a positive attitude towards the GLBT community and support the mission of the chorus.
Desired Skills:
A moderate proficiency of the keyboard with the intent to accompany the chorus in the absence of a principal accompanist.
Ability to arrange choral music for a four-part male chorus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach vocal technique and reading ability through a variety of styles of music.
Direct the chorus during weekly rehearsals, occasional additional rehearsals as needed and at all scheduled performances.
Develop a chorus calendar that includes weekly participation in rehearsals and performances as approved by the Board of Directors.
Assist the chorus in the memorization of the music.
Work collaboratively with the Production Committee by attending all meetings to develop scheduled performances. The schedule should be maintained two years in advance as well as focusing on the details for current performances.
Recruit new chorus members each year from various community resources, including but not limited to the GLBT community.
Attend and provide a written report to the Board of Directors for their monthly meetings.
Purchase choral music staying within the annual budget.
Terms:
This is a part-time position, contracted annually beginning August 1st and continuing in force until July 31st. The time commitment necessary for this position will fluctuate depending upon the needs of the chorus.

The Harrisburg Men's Chorus announces the retirement of their Artistic Director, David Walker. David has been the director for 8 years and the 2011-2012 season will be his last. He has taken the Chorus to new heights under his talented leadership. They have attended 2 GALA (Gay and Lesbian National Choral Association) Festivals in Miami, Florida and San Jose, California with Denver, Colorado in 2012. David has encouraged collaboration with other musical groups both in Central Pennsylvania and abroad, including the New Jersey Gay Men’s Chorus, the Central Pennsylvania Womyn’s Chorus and the Arcona Reel Band. In the Harrisburg area, David has been instrumental in leading the Voices United concerts for 7 years. His sense of humor, wit and talents will be dearly missed.
As we say goodbye to David, the Harrisburg Men’s Chorus is on the search for a new Artistic Director. The search will be opening in the Fall of 2011 to have a director in place by the Spring of 2012.
